Heartwarming Charity – The Kidney Foundation of Canada
For the month of April, we decided to feature a charity that warms our hearts, but also our kidneys! The Kidney Foundation of Canada is a well-known organization that works to improve the health and livelihoods of those Canadians suffering from and affected by kidney disease. Check out what this foundation is doing and how they are making an impact!
About this Charity:
“The Kidney Foundation of Canada is people working together for a common cause. We are volunteers, individuals living with kidney disease, donors, and staff members – from all walks of life, all across Canada.”
– The Kidney Foundation of Canada
The Kidney Foundation of Canada is taking action to help those affected by kidney disease, whether they are suffering from it personally or are affected by it. This charity is working to:
1. Provide Hope and Empowerment
Just as heart disease is a life-threatening disease, so is kidney disease. It can be distressing and overwhelming to have to live with kidney disease, and the Kidney Foundation of Canada is there to provide hope and empowerment. They offer hope that new research is being done to help and share the knowledge gained about preventing and treating this disease.
Those living with kidney disease or are who affected by the disease need support. The Kidney Foundation of Canada seeks out opportunities to help individuals by getting them the support they need (whether financially or otherwise). They work to achieve “access to healthcare and to wellness, socio-emotional, and financial support” for those affected.
Through an increase in awareness and understanding of kidney disease, the Kidney Foundation of Canada works to empower people and encourage them to engage. The foundation seeks out opportunities for assistance and strategies from the government and has involvement from the public as well. The foundation has a wide number of volunteers who work to provide programs and assistance to those across Canada who are affected by kidney disease.
The Kidney Foundation of Canada Events:
The Kidney Foundation has weekly events that take place across Canada! For a detailed breakdown of the more upcoming events, check out the event page!
Date: September 7-9, 2018
Location: Calgary and Kananaskis
About the Event:
Kidney March is an inspiring and amazing fight against kidney disease. Unlike other fundraising walks, this one takes place over 3 days. The march begins in Calgary and takes participants throughout the K-Country area. Each marcher raises funds and support that will go towards kidney research and supporting those living with kidney disease. The event features pit-stops along the way, amazing volunteers cheering the marchers along, and a tent-city that homes all the marchers at the end of the day. Everyone is welcome, and if marching is not your cup-of-tea, then there is the opportunity to volunteer with the many other tasks required for the march.
How to Get Involved:
There are a number of ways you can get involved with the Kidney Foundation of Canada, including:
- Register to participate in the Kidney March
- Donate your unused vehicles to the Kidney Car Program
- Participate in surveys
- Participate in events across Canada
Why This Charity is Heartwarming:
The Kidney Foundation of Canada is working to create better lives where kidney disease is manageable, preventable, and hopefully eliminated. The foundation is bringing the importance of the kidneys to our attention. What many may not realize is that the kidneys are directly linked to the heart. Both are vital organs, and research has suggested that heart failure can actually be a risk factor for kidney disease. Through donations, engagement, and support, the Kidney Foundation is working to create a healthier world. We benefit by:
- Supporting individuals suffering from kidney disease.
- Encouraging and understanding how to prevent/manage/support those with kidney disease.
- Create awareness for improved health that benefits our kidneys and our hearts.
When you work towards improved heart health, you are also working towards improved kidney health. It all comes back to the heart, and that is why we support the Kidney Foundation of Canada for all of their amazing and inspiring work!
