Why First Aid Training is So Important!
Everyone experiences bumps as they go about their day-to-day life: stubbing a toe, cutting a finger, or slipping and falling down the stairs. Then other times there are more serious things that happen and it is important to be prepared and know what to do. Many people think that First Aid training is just common sense when it comes to helping someone out, but the fact is that knowing how to help someone, or save their life, requires proper knowledge and an understanding of what is actually needed to be done!
Why First Aid Training Helps
First Aid training is not simply a course that goes over why people choke on things (a stereotype that often goes alongside what first aid is), or what to do if a cut is deeper than it looks. First Aid training focuses on strategies and techniques that can really save a life when medical emergencies occur. If someone’s heart stops, do you know where to properly place your hands to perform CPR? Do you know what angle their head should be at? Do you leave them on their back or flip them on their side? It isn’t just a matter of guessing, or remembering roughly the positioning that you saw demonstrated on a television show (most times tv shows get it wrong – check out which popular ones messed up here!). There is a reason behind each first aid tactic!
When you get the proper knowledge, you are then equipped with the certification and confidence to assist someone properly. In some instances if you try to help someone, whatever the problem may be, you could actually be harming rather than helping. If the person lives, despite your incorrect assistance, they may even decide to sue.
How Will First Aid Training Help Me?
Being trained in first aid can also give you the confidence to help someone. An incident could happen anywhere to anyone: at home, on the street, at work, in the mall, and you will want to know what you are doing. If something happens and everyone standing nearby does not know or feel comfortable assisting the individual, you have just become another face in the crowd. First aid training is so important as it could be a person’s life on the line! First Aid will help you be ready for various medical emergencies that go above and beyond simply knowing how to properly conduct CPR. It can help:
- stay at home mom’s with child injuries that occur in the house,
- office workers with coworkers injuries,
- hikers treat their friends’ and family’s injuries while far from help,
- and anyone else with any medical emergency that arises.
Learning how to do what is required is one piece of the puzzle, being aware for signs of problems is another! First aid training can teach you how to identify problems before they become too serious. By having the knowledge of what signs to look for, you can intervene before they actually happen! It can also prevent you from coming into harms way. You will be able to assess situations to see if they are safe for you to enter. Sometimes the area surrounding an injured individual will be dangerous (electrical wires, fire, etc.).
