Heartwarming Charity – World Heart Federation

According to the World Health Organization, about 17.9 million people died from cardiovascular disease in the year 2016.

This significant number is a scary reality for many people living across the globe who are either suffering from heart disease, or struggle with other heart problems. It is for this reason that prevention and education is critical. The more people that are aware of how to help and protect their heart health, the better we can reduce this extreme number. That is what the World Heart Federation is aiming to do.

The first words you see as you visit the World Heart Federation (WHF) website is “Because every heartbeat matters.” How true that is! Every single human being on this planet (and animals too!) has a heart. To protect the hearts of our world, the WHF is stepping in to address the problem of cardiovascular disease and make a change! This is why we have selected the World Heart Federation as our Heartwarming Charity of the month! Take a look at what this organization is doing to help hearts across the globe!

About this Charity:

“[The World Heart Federation] believe[s] in a world where heart health for everyone is a fundamental human right and a crucial element of global health justice.”

– World Heart Federation

Working with the World Health Organization, the World Heart Federation is a “non-governmental organization… and a member of the NCD Alliance.” The organization works across 100 different countries, raising awareness of cardiovascular disease and is promoting the need for research and knowledge that will improve the heart health of our world. Take a look at what this wonderful organization is doing to support hearts globally:

  • Build Community
As stated on their website, “we play a major role in bringing the CV community together to drive transformational change.” Through the bringing together of the scientific community, cardiology societies, foundations, the public, and others involved in protecting hearts, the WHF hopes to create an opportunity to advance heart health in every country. Through the membership on their website, the World Heart Federation strives to join people in the fight against cardiovascular disease. This membership helps to provide opportunities to “share your work and best practices, to learn from each other and catalyze positive progress towards the heart healthy lives of everyone globally.”
  • Create Awareness
In addition to building community, the World Heart Federation seeks to raise awareness through events such as World Heart Day, the World Congress of Cardiology, and other extraordinary events. As well, they continue to work to lead the global advocacy efforts, empower new leaders in the cardiovascular health industry, and keep the public up to date on research, developments, and news that are making an impact in the area of our cardiology!

Why This Charity is Heartwarming:

With a focus on improving the heart health of individuals around the world, there is hope for the future! This charity is heartwarming because:

  • They are creating a strong community and improving awareness of heart disease
    • The more people who are aware of heart disease and cardiovascular problems, the more we can assist. Further research and support are needed to help those suffering with heart disease, or to provide preventative knowledge to those who are unaware.

It is charities like the World Heart Federation that are truly making a difference for hearts across the Earth, showing everyone how to be heart healthy and to encourage a community of positive change!

It all comes back to the heart, and that is why we support the World Heart Federation for everything they do to help Canadians!
